Conflict Resolution & Peace Building
Preventing wider communal conflict through peace committees, early warning, inclusive dialogue, reconciliation, and long-term trust-building.
Peace is the foundation on which communities develop, businesses operate, children learn, and families plan for the future. Wider disputes involving land, traditional leadership, political identity, natural resources, youth groups, or neighbouring communities can weaken trust and disrupt development for many years.
Beyond Despair's Conflict Resolution and Peace Building Programme focuses on the structures and relationships needed to prevent broader communal conflict and sustain peace over time. It complements the Conflict Resolution Programme, which addresses more immediate local and interpersonal disputes.
We work with chiefs, elders, women, youth, faith leaders, schools, civic organisations, local authorities, and other trusted institutions. The programme promotes locally credible processes while encouraging inclusion, non-violence, accountability, and respect for lawful mechanisms.
Peacebuilding begins with careful conflict analysis. Beyond Despair and its partners seek to understand the history, stakeholders, power dynamics, risks, and previous attempts at resolution before selecting an intervention. Neutrality and the safety of participants are essential.
The programme combines immediate dialogue with long-term prevention. A single meeting may reduce tension, but lasting peace often requires continued engagement, inclusive leadership, early-warning arrangements, youth participation, and visible cooperation between groups.
Communal conflict can destroy years of social and economic progress. Support for this programme helps communities establish credible peace structures, include overlooked voices, prevent violence, and sustain reconciliation beyond a single intervention.
Support communities to prevent violence, rebuild trust, and protect lasting peace.
