Health & Social Care
Community health outreach, mental-health support, referrals, and compassionate care for vulnerable people and families.
Good health is not only the absence of illness. It includes physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, safety, dignity, social support, and the ability to access help at the right time. Many communities across Africa, especially in Ghana, continue to face gaps in primary healthcare, health information, mental-health services, disability support, and care for older people.
Beyond Despair's Health & Social Care Programme is designed to strengthen community-level support and improve access to prevention, early assistance, and appropriate referrals. It recognises that health and social challenges are often connected. A person living with disability, chronic illness, poverty, isolation, or family crisis may need both medical attention and practical social support.
We work with healthcare professionals, social-welfare organisations, counsellors, community health workers, volunteers, families, and local leaders. The programme does not seek to replace qualified medical or statutory services. Instead, it helps communities understand needs, reach available services, and build stronger networks of care.
Programme activities are developed with qualified local professionals and community stakeholders. Before an intervention begins, Beyond Despair seeks to understand the health or social-care gap, the services already available, and the groups most at risk of being excluded.
Safeguarding, dignity, confidentiality, informed participation, and appropriate referral are central to delivery. Community volunteers may help identify needs and share information, but diagnosis and clinical treatment remain the responsibility of qualified professionals.
Without early support, manageable health and social challenges can become long-term crises. Contributions to this programme help communities receive information, referrals, care resources, and compassionate assistance before people are left behind.
Help make health, dignity, and compassionate social care more accessible.
