Show Me & Tell Me What Is Not Right

Safe, accessible ways for people to identify harmful conditions, report concerns, seek help, and participate in improving their communities.

Overview

People often see unsafe, unjust, harmful, or neglected conditions in their homes, schools, workplaces, neighbourhoods, or natural environment. They may not know where to report the issue, may fear retaliation, or may believe that speaking up will make no difference. Children, young people, people with disabilities, and socially excluded residents can face even greater barriers to being heard.

Show Me & Tell Me What Is Not Right is Beyond Despair's community listening, reporting, and referral initiative. It creates accessible ways for people to raise concerns, explain what they are experiencing, and identify problems that require responsible attention.

The programme does not promise that Beyond Despair can resolve every complaint. Its role is to listen respectfully, document concerns, assess what falls within the organisation's remit, refer matters appropriately, and use recurring issues to improve programmes, community education, and advocacy.

Objectives
Give community members safe and accessible ways to raise legitimate concerns
Help vulnerable individuals understand available services and reporting pathways
Improve responsible documentation, referral, feedback, and follow-up
Use community evidence to identify recurring problems and inform constructive action
Core activities
Provide accessible channels for reporting safeguarding, safety, environmental, service, or community concerns
Hold listening sessions that include children, young people, women, older people, and people with disabilities
Record and assess concerns carefully before deciding on action or referral
Connect people with qualified services, responsible authorities, or trusted partner organisations
Provide community education on rights, responsibilities, safeguarding, and available support
Track referrals and give appropriate feedback without disclosing confidential information
Analyse recurring concerns to guide advocacy, programme design, and public-awareness activities
Delivery approach

Reports are handled with respect, neutrality, and proportionate confidentiality. The programme explains what information may need to be shared when a person is at risk, a safeguarding concern arises, or the law requires referral. It does not encourage public accusation, retaliation, or the circulation of unverified claims.

Concerns are assessed according to urgency, risk, evidence, and organisational responsibility. Immediate safeguarding or emergency matters are escalated appropriately. Other concerns may lead to referral, community dialogue, service coordination, awareness activity, or inclusion in future programme planning.

Intended outcomes
More community members understand how and where to raise concerns
Vulnerable people have greater opportunity to be heard
Serious safeguarding and safety matters are identified and referred earlier
Communities receive clearer feedback about responsible next steps
Recurring problems inform better programmes, education, and advocacy
Why support matters

Communities become safer and more accountable when people can speak, concerns are treated seriously, and responsible organisations respond within their authority. Support for this programme helps build trusted listening channels and turn verified concerns into constructive action.

Show us what is wrong, tell us what is happening, and help the community work towards a responsible solution.
